I'm Peter Schmidt, founder of Prepare. I personally teach most of our SAT and ACT prep classes. I’m a proud graduate of Saucon Valley High School, Columbia University (BA in English), Yale University (MM in Music), and the University of Houston (MFA in Drama). Before launching Prepare, I performed professionally in musicals, plays and operas all over the country.
As it turns out, one of my ‘side-hustles’ — teaching SAT prep for a private firm in California — began a new career for me. I realized that my academic background, intellectual curiosity, and performing experience combined to help me connect with students and help them learn.

Research consistently confirms that structured SAT preparation produces significant score improvements across all ability levels. CollegeBoard data shows that 20 hours of focused SAT preparation correlates with an average gain of 115 points, while even 6–8 hours of preparation yields average improvements of around 90 points. These results align with our long-standing experience: professional SAT preparation reliably delivers measurable score gains. The amount of improvement largely depends on a student’s starting score. Students beginning below 1000 often see the largest increases—typically 150–250 points—as instruction addresses foundational gaps while building test strategy. Students scoring 1000–1200 commonly improve 100–150 points through targeted refinement of weaker areas. Even high-performing students above 1200 regularly gain 50–100+ points by mastering advanced strategies and time management needed for elite scores in the 1400–1600 range.
