I'm Peter Schmidt, founder of Prepare. I personally teach most of our SAT and ACT prep classes. I’m a proud graduate of Saucon Valley High School, Columbia University (BA in English), Yale University (MM in Music), and the University of Houston (MFA in Drama). Before launching Prepare, I performed professionally in musicals, plays and operas all over the country.
As it turns out, one of my ‘side-hustles’ — teaching SAT prep for a private firm in California — began a new career for me. I realized that my academic background, intellectual curiosity, and performing experience combined to help me connect with students and help them learn.
Since I returned to Pennsylvania in 2004 and founded PREPARE, I’ve helped thousands of students significantly raise their SAT and ACT scores — and take a big step toward their college dreams. (And, every so often, I do a show!)

Our program is fully aligned with the Digital SAT, launched in 2024. Unlike the traditional paper test, the Digital SAT takes just 2 hours and 14 minutes and is administered via the College Board’s Bluebook application. It features an adaptive two-module format for both Reading & Writing and Math sections, where question difficulty adjusts based on performance in the first module.
Understanding these changes is key to effective preparation. Our curriculum covers adaptive testing strategies, practice with digital tools including the built-in Desmos calculator, techniques for shorter reading passages, and time management strategies specific to the computer-based environment. Students complete full-length adaptive practice tests that mirror the real exam, building familiarity and confidence.
Because the second module adapts to first-module performance, excelling early is critical. Our instructors teach strategies to maximize performance in initial questions while maintaining accuracy and speed, a method proven to help students reach their target scores and scholarship goals.

We offer in-person classes at the Exton Conference Center, conveniently located near Routes 30 and 100, serving students from West Chester West & East, West Chester Henderson, Rustin, Downingtown East & West, Downingtown STEM, Great Valley, Conestoga, Radnor, Unionville, Garnet Valley, Malvern Prep and private schools across the region.
Our academic-year courses meet twice weekly for six weeks—usually Sunday mornings plus one evening—offering substantial instructional time without overwhelming busy student schedules. For students needing more intensive prep, we offer condensed courses and one-on-one tutoring. Online Zoom options are also available, providing the same expert instruction from home with flexible scheduling.
Class sizes remain small to ensure personalized attention. Students can ask questions, work through challenging problems, and receive detailed feedback on practice tests. This supportive environment fosters both competence and confidence throughout the preparation process.

Reading & Writing: Students learn evidence-based reading strategies, grammar rules, passage analysis techniques, and vocabulary-in-context approaches. Our instructors teach how to tackle shorter passages and single-question formats efficiently, focusing on elimination strategies and accuracy.
Mathematics: Instruction spans algebra, problem-solving, data analysis, advanced math topics, trigonometry, and geometry fundamentals. Calculator strategies, mental math, and estimation techniques are integrated to help students approach unfamiliar problems logically rather than relying solely on memorization.
Test-Taking Strategies: Our program emphasizes time management, question prioritization, educated guessing, stress management, and navigating adaptive tests effectively. Regular homework and full-length practice tests with detailed score analysis help students identify strengths and target weaknesses, consistently producing score gains.
We offer multiple SAT class sessions throughout the year, carefully timed to align with College Board SAT test dates in March, May, June, August, October, November, and December. Most West Chester students enroll in courses scheduled for spring of sophomore year through fall of junior year, allowing adequate time for score improvement before college application deadlines.
