Students achieve major score gains through structured, proven teaching.
I'm Peter Schmidt, founder of Prepare. I personally teach most of our SAT and ACT prep classes. I’m a proud graduate of Saucon Valley High School, Columbia University (BA in English), Yale University (MM in Music), and the University of Houston (MFA in Drama). Before launching Prepare, I performed professionally in musicals, plays and operas all over the country.
As it turns out, one of my ‘side-hustles’ — teaching SAT prep for a private firm in California — began a new career for me. I realized that my academic background, intellectual curiosity, and performing experience combined to help me connect with students and help them learn.
Since I returned to Pennsylvania in 2004 and founded PREPARE, I’ve helped thousands of students significantly raise their SAT and ACT scores — and take a big step toward their college dreams. (And, every so often, I do a show!)
Families in Allentown, Easton, and throughout the Lehigh Valley choose our private ACT tutoring because of the quality, experience, and results we deliver. Many tutoring centers rely on college students or part-time instructors with limited training and minimal exposure to the ACT’s nuances. In contrast, Peter Schmidt is a Columbia and Yale graduate who has devoted his career to SAT and ACT preparation. His deep understanding of test structure, question patterns, and scoring allows him to teach not just content, but strategy. This level of expertise translates into tutoring sessions that are engaging, focused, and highly effective. Students receive clear explanations, practical strategies, and constant feedback—elements that are difficult to achieve in group classes. Parents appreciate knowing their child is working directly with a seasoned professional who has guided thousands of students through the same process successfully. Private ACT tutoring offers clear advantages over group instruction, especially for students who need targeted improvement in specific sections of the test: English, Math, Reading, or Science. One-on-one tutoring provides flexible scheduling, personalized pacing, focused attention, and immediate correction of mistakes. Instead of spending time on material a student already knows, we concentrate on areas where improvement will have the greatest impact on the composite score. Our ACT tutoring program in Allentown consistently produces composite score gains of 3–6 points, which roughly equates to 100–300 SAT-equivalent points. Students from Freedom, Liberty, William Allen, Dieruff, Parkland, Easton Area, Nazareth, and other Lehigh Valley high schools benefit from our in-person sessions at Muhlenberg College or from comprehensive online tutoring. This flexibility makes expert ACT preparation accessible even with demanding academic and extracurricular schedules.
Our private ACT tutoring in Allentown takes place at the prestigious Muhlenberg College campus, offering a professional academic setting that supports focused learning. Students benefit from quiet, comfortable tutoring spaces, reliable Wi-Fi, modern technology for digital ACT preparation, and a distraction-free environment. The location is easily accessible from Route 22, Route 78, and Route 309, with ample free parking for families throughout Lehigh County.
Each tutoring program begins with a detailed diagnostic assessment that evaluates performance across all four ACT sections. This analysis identifies precise strengths, weaknesses, timing issues, and recurring error patterns. Using this data, we create a customized study plan designed specifically for the student rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all curriculum.
ACT tutoring sessions focus on content mastery, strategic test-taking, and efficient time management. Math instruction addresses areas such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, logarithms, and advanced problem-solving, emphasizing conceptual understanding instead of memorization. English tutoring targets grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and rhetorical skills based on the mistakes each student consistently makes. Reading and Science tutoring develop critical comprehension, data analysis, and reasoning skills essential for higher scores.

Students in Easton have convenient access to our ACT tutoring through in-person sessions at Muhlenberg College—just about 15 minutes away via Route 22—or through fully interactive online tutoring via Zoom. Online ACT tutoring provides the same expert instruction and personalized attention, with added convenience for families managing busy schedules.
Easton families often choose online tutoring to save travel time while still receiving individualized coaching. Sessions are flexible and can be scheduled around school, sports, clubs, and other commitments. Whether tutoring is conducted in person or online, the focus remains on personalized pacing and targeted improvement.
Private tutoring allows students to move quickly through material they already understand and spend more time on challenging concepts. Immediate feedback ensures mistakes are corrected before they become habits, accelerating progress and maximizing efficiency. This level of individualized attention is not possible in group settings, where instructors must divide their focus among many students.
Private ACT tutoring offers several advantages that make it the preferred choice for many Lehigh Valley families. Instruction is tailored to the student’s specific needs, allowing focused work on the sections that matter most. For example, a student struggling with ACT Science can devote significant time to data interpretation and experimental analysis without unnecessary review of English concepts they already excel in.
Scheduling flexibility is another major benefit. Unlike group classes with fixed meeting times, private tutoring adapts to the student’s availability. Evening and weekend sessions, rescheduling options, and customized timelines make preparation manageable alongside academic and extracurricular responsibilities.
Customized pacing ensures students learn at a speed that suits them. Faster learners are not held back, and students who need more reinforcement receive it without pressure. This approach builds confidence, reduces frustration, and creates a more productive learning experience.
Private ACT tutoring rates typically range from $50 to $200 per hour depending on experience and credentials. Our tutoring with Yale graduate Peter Schmidt offers exceptional value due to proven results and decades of expertise. Most students benefit from 10–20 hours of tutoring, though individual needs vary.
